Each week (give or take one or two here and there) I share three things I like – It could be a book, a movie, a podcast, an album, a photo, an article, a restaurant, a food item, a beverage, or anything else I simply enjoy and think you might too. You can find a whole pile of things, especially books, I like and recommend HERE.
1. Go Forward in Love: A Year of Daily Readings from Timothy Keller
If I was to list authors who have shaped my thinking and faith the most, aside from my own father, I would name C.S. Lewis and Tim Keller. . .who was in many ways a 21st century C.S. Lewis. Keller’s clarity of thought and capacity to build a rationale, inescapable argument for truth in a gentle manner is unlike any other living author. His relentless, calm focus on the work of Jesus has eroded my own cynicism and lifted my heart time and again. And this book is essentially a greatest hits collection. Each page is a short selection from another of Keller’s works offering encouragement, clarity, insight, and the gospel. It is an IV drip of lovely truth to build you up. Any Christian would benefit from this book, and with the added benefit of being introduced to works of his that you might not otherwise have read.
2. MacBook Air 15-inch Laptop
I am not a technology wonk, always upgrading to the newest and latest of anything. I have little need for maximum computing power since I run no complex processes, do no video work, and am not a graphic designer. But there comes a time in a man’s life when a six year old laptop with a battery life shorter than a toddler’s attention span needs to be replaced. After 6+ years using the same laptop, a 13 inch macbook pro, for all my work and writing I finally made the decision to upgrade a couple months ago. I did extensive research (20ish minutes of googling) and landed on this beautiful piece of computing machinery. I was pretty committed to staying with Mac because of the quality of goods and the ease of staying in the same computing neighborhood. I don’t really know what an m3 chip is, but this has one and it’s supposed to be nice. I love the larger screen, especially after having written hundred of thousands of words on a smaller computer. The retina display is beautiful. They’ve upgraded the speakers so the audio is richer and louder. And it just looks awesome, especially the midnight color. If you are considering a new laptop, I highly recommend this one.
3. Pilot, Precise V7, Rolling Ball Pens
I will go on record to say these are my second favorite pens for regular use. I have mentioned my favorite pens previously, but one must not be a complete snob nor limit one’s self to a single style of stylus. These are wonderful, smooth, clear, affordable pens for the hand writers among us. They don’t deserve much in the way of odes or eloquence, but rather a simple clear affirmation of quality. So here it is, my second favorite pen and one I would be glad to have in my bag or my pocket at any given time.
