Isn’t it easy to think “God has forgotten me”? Isn’t this a temptation we experience, especially when we are in the midst of suffering? God knows our hearts. He understands our limitations and temptations. So he has provided abundant reminders that He never forgets us. Here are two:
Deuteronomy 31:6 – Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.
This is God declaring who He is. He is an unfailing, constant, loving, trustworthy Father. He is not fickle or forgetful. He is not limited or pulled away by work to handle problems elsewhere. He is for us and with us always, even when we are wandering and lost or when we face insurmountable challenges.
John 10:27-30 – My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.
In Christ we have the guarantee, the promise, the living proof that God will not leave us or forsake us or forget us, no matter what our fears and worries might be. Jesus did not step down from heaven, set aside his glory, take on human flesh, live as a man in a fallen world, and die for sinners in order to let us fall through the cracks or slip His mind! God sent Jesus to call us to Himself, to be part of His flock, to be known by name and cared for deeply, without fail.
