Each week (give or take one or two here and there) I share three things I like – It could be a book, a movie, a podcast, an album, a photo, an article, a restaurant, a food item, a beverage, or anything else I simply enjoy and think you might too. You can find a whole pile of things, especially books, I like and recommend HERE.
1) Teva Hiking Boots
When you hear the brand name “Teva” you likely think of rugged sandals that are good for camping and various outdoors sports. I’ve owned a couple pairs of those sandals over the years, and what they lack in style they make up for in utility and comfort. So it is that when I needed a new pair of hiking boots several years ago, I decided to see what Teva had to offer. I didn’t want the super chunky, heavy style nor did I want to drop $200+ dollars on high end boots. I mean, I’m not scaling 14ers here in Tennessee nor am I a through hiker on the Appalachian Trail. I found that Teva offers wonderful options in sturdy hiking boots and shoes that serve my purposes really well. They are really comfortable, light weight, water resistant, quick drying, supportive, and even a bit stylish if one cares about such things. While they arenlt cheap, neither will you break the bank on them.
2) The Gruffalo
Most children’s books are either dumb or preachy or both, so to find one that is a fun story and cleverly written is a delight. Somehow I missed this book when my now teenaged daughters were little. But we’ve been rebuilding our library if kids book for our baby son, and someone gave us a copy of The Gruffalo. And it is fantastic. It is funny and witty with well-crafted rhythms and rhymes and plenty of opportunities for different silly voices (if that’s your thing). The illustrations are excellent, in a Maurice Sendak-esque way. It’s so good, in fact, that I don’t mind reading it over and over again, which is a special parenting mercy.
3) The Foto App
I miss the days when social media was simple, chronological, and personal. That’s how Foto feels. It is an app of just photographs with captions (if the poster wants). Likes, follows, and comments aren’t emphasized. Whatever algorithm Foto uses doesn’t prioritize any posts or push any content to the top; posts simply appear in the order they are uploaded. And you can curate your own follow section to see posts from exactly who you want. If you dig creativity and all styles of photography, check out this app.
