Each week (give or take one or two here and there) I share three things I like – It could be a book, a movie, a podcast, an album, a photo, an article, a restaurant, a food item, a beverage, or anything else I simply enjoy and think you might too. You can find a whole pile of things, especially books, I like and recommend HERE.
1) Classic Oscillating Sprinkler
In the north, where I grew up, summer was for eeking out every moment out doors you could because the beautiful weather was fleeting and winter was looming. In the south, where I live now, summer is trying to kill us all and is a time to thank God for air conditioning. For parents of small children, this means being imprisoned inside with increasingly bored and agitated youngsters who need to burn off energy while somehow not being burned by the rays of the sun. And the only way one can enjoy being outside is if water is involved, and that means pools, lakes, or for many who do not have ready access to said bodies of hydration, SPRINKLERS. I have heard rumors that these are sometimes used to water grass too, but be serious, sprinklers are for kids to play in. Just this week my wife introduced our 14 month old to the sprinkler, and that charmed aluminum rain maker has not lost one buit of its magic since I enjoyed playing in it as a kid. So here’s to the most inexpensive, easy to set up, easy to clean up aquatic entertainment for kids.
2) Structured Quick Drying Baseball Cap
I am a bit picky when it comes to the fit of my hats. I hate low profile hats (think dads and hipsters) and I hate hats with no structure. A particular downside to this is that almost all hats designed for running/working out are very low profile and unstructured, basically bandanas with a brim. But I love wearing hats when I run or hike do yard work or any other sweaty activity outdoors. So when I found these hats that are structured, breathable, and quick-dry (and inexpensive) I was thrilled. I’ve had two of them for over two years, wear them multiple times per week, and they are still going strong.
3) “When My Train Pulls In” by Gary Clark Jr.
Is it blues? Is it rock? Does it matter in the slightest? Not a bit. It’s awesome.
