Each week (give or take one or two here and there) I share three things I like – It could be a book, a movie, a podcast, an album, a photo, an article, a restaurant, a food item, a beverage, or anything else I simply enjoy and think you might too. You can find a whole pile of things, especially books, I like and recommend HERE.
1) The Big Picture Story Bible by David Helm
In my opinion, this is the best story Bible for young kids (toddlers through preschool or kindergarten). It is simple, clear, and does a wonderful job taking big stories and big truths and distilling them down to memorable, true statements about God and his work. It fun to read with kids because of the bright illustrations and the quick pace. If you are looking for a wonderful, foundational Bible story book that will introduce kids to the big themes and story arc of Scripture, this is it.
2) Ray-Ban Folding Wayfarer Sunglasses
For most of my adult life I bought inexpensive sunglasses and managed to lose or break them (probably because they were inexpensive) within a few months. I have donated dozens of pairs to restaurants, rental cars, hotels, beaches, pools, and city sidewalks. Five years ago, my wife and I went on a beach vacation and I managed to forget my sunglasses at home. I decided to splurge on a pair of honest to goodness Ray-Bans, knowing full well my own history of eye-ware negligence. And two amazing things happened: I discovered why some sunglasses cost so much and I learned that if you invest in something you actually take care of it. I still have the same pair five years later, and I love them. This also means I have now saved money on sunglasses too, because I no longer buy two or three $25 dollar pairs per year. And they are genuinely wonderful sunglasses–comfortable, not fragile, easily portable, and they fit my face. It is a bitter pill to swallow for a midwestern buy to buy pricey sunglasses, but it was worth it.
3) “When My Train Pulls In” performed by Gary Clark Jr.
Gary Clark Jr. is an insane guitar player and vocalist. He writes many of his own songs, but one of my favorites of his is this older blues number, originally by Albert Collins, that he absolutely rocks.
