Each week (give or take one or two here and there) I share three things I like – It could be a book, a movie, a podcast, an album, a photo, an article, a restaurant, a food item, a beverage, or anything else I simply enjoy and think you might too. You can find a whole pile of things, especially books, I like and recommend HERE.
1) Forgive: Why Should I and How Can I? by Tim Keller
I was slow to pick up this book for a couple reasons. First, out of arrogance, I kind of thought I knew the ins and outs of forgiveness from a biblical perspective. Second, out of cowardice, I didn’t want to accidentally encounter something convicting. Turns out I was wrong on the first point and right on the second. In the same clear, reasonable, articulate, and eminently wise manner that he did in so many other books and sermons Tim Keller lays open the heart of forgiveness–both the need to receive it and to give it, and of course the means provided for both through the gospel of Jesus Christ. And the conviction I have felt reading this book is due to the richness of the truth it offers, not the tone or aggression of the writing. So it has been encouraging conviction, refreshing conviction, the kind that draws my heart deeper into truths I already believe but about which I have lost amazement. It is not a long or heavy book, and it is a gift to the reader. You should pick it up.
2) New Era Baseball Hats
Baseball season is among us which means it’s the time of year when I splurge on a new Twins hat. And let me just say, New Era just keeps coming out with absolute fire designs, like this one that ordered a couple weeks ago from Lids (the MLB shop has a whole other collection). They blend classic looks with clean, fresh looks, and since it is the official brand for team hats, the quality is high. If you are a hat person, these are for you. Just be warned, your heart is at risk of covetousness and your budget is at risk of breakage.
3) But for the Cross of Christ by Bryan Fowler and Jessica Waterman
Jessica is the Director of Music at my church, Immanuel, and Bryan is a member and serves on our music team. They are both prolific and excellent song writers, especially of music to serve the church. We had the privilege of singing this song at Immanuel for several months now prior to its official release, and is exciting to see it out in the world and blessing others. It is magnificent and will serve your heart, and hopefully your church.
